Who We work with
Pi’ikū Co. envisions a Hawaiʻi that is sustainable, that is built on a foundation of strong community relationships, and that nourishes the people who make this place home. To that end, we partner with organizations and representatives of organizations who envision the same. We do not partner with any organizations or individuals representing organizations that promote hate or violence, directly contribute to the manufacture or deployment of weapons or to the carceral system, or who otherwise harm the people or the land of Hawaiʻi. We do not partner with the US Department of Defense, Homeland Security, or any contractors or their representatives primarily working with these clients. We know that these interpretations can be subjective and can also shift and change. Piʻikū Co. will be continually evaluating our policies as we strive for a more just Hawaiʻi.
AI Policy
Piʻikū Co. believes that there is no substitute for human thought, creativity, and compassion. Working through hard problems on our own and together is how we build necessary skills, clarify our thinking, become more resilient, and build meaningful relationships with the world and with each other. Piʻikū Co. also believes in the power of technology to bring people together, to create capacity for higher thought, and to build our dreams. We encourage our participants and community to engage critically with the technology they choose to use personally and for their work - its environmental impact, its impact on workers, and its ability to produce work of the quality our world deserves. We do not believe innovation, efficiency, or optimization are themselves virtues.
To that end, we do not require the use of AI in our programs and do not endorse any specific AI tools. We recommend our staff, participants, mentors, speakers, and anyone else working with Piʻikū only use AI for tasks that can be fully reviewed, verified, and quality assured by the creator. We also expect the creator to fully own the results of any AI outputs generated, taking accountability for any writing, code, or other deliverables created, including any maintenance required by their creation and any impact their contents may have.
We ask that in considering the use of AI, users prioritize human connection over expediency, integrity over efficiency, and accuracy over speed. We ask that in considering any technology, our community holistically consider the impact of those technologies on our world.
